What is Giving Hands?

Giving Hands, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in Alabama formed in April, 2008 with the intention of raising awareness of, educating the public about and raising money to conduct and support research for children with congenital or acquired limb differences. It is estimated that 1 in 2000 children are born with a limb difference and many more lose limbs to injury or illness.

Why did Giving Hands start?

Our beautiful baby boy, Caleb Jackson Mitchell, was born on September 19, 2007 with a hypoplastic (underdeveloped or missing) left hand. Unfortunately, the doctors could not correctly diagnose his condition, much less tell us what went wrong or what we could do about it. Currently, there is little research into the causes of these birth “challenges” or solutions for them. Therefore, we, as proud parents to such an amazing little boy, have chosen to take an active role in uncovering the cause and discovering a solution to correct these unfortunate congenital limb differences.
